Boys Can Sing
16 June, 6.30 pm. – The City Academy, Hackney
Being inspired by Gareth Malone’s TV show in which he encourages and motivates boys to sing, The City Academy Hackney has decided to spread his legacy to Hackney schools. Two years ago the music department created a boys only choir, which turned out to be an inspiration for other schools to create their own male choirs. To promote singing among boys, who at a certain age can tend to shy away from using their voices and often find singing uncool, we have come up with the annual event called ‘Boys Can Sing’.
The event involves vocal workshops with amazing guests and then results in a grand concert in our theatre. The initiative also encourages other schools to join and participate with us. This year is going to be even more exciting because it will involve over 120 boys from Hackney borough and fantastic guest artists to run the workshops, such as male vocalists from the a cappella group, VOCES8 and Mark De-Lisser (The Voice, Last Choir Standing, BBC show The Naked Choir, music director of the successful ACM gospel choir).
The event will take place on 16th June and the schools participating this year are: The City Academy Hackney, Skinners Academy, Hackney New School, Rushmore Primary School, Daubeney Primary School.
