Thursday 3 November
This year we celebrated our seventh Founders’ Day – a ceremony marking the official opening of the school in 2009 – with the biggest celebration so far, featuring student performances, guest speakers, and subject prize givings.
Meg Hillier, MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch, and Catherine McGuinness, our Chair of Governors, presented speeches to the year 12 cohort rewarding them for their hard work towards their GCSE exams last year and encouraging them to make the most of their opportunities ahead. Prizes were then given out to students in subject areas, including the Fiona Woolf Music prize, and the Farriers Award for English Language and Literature.
This year’s Founders’ Day was also significant in marking the official opening of the Emmerson Sixth Form Centre, our brand new purpose-built Sixth Form Building named after Mark Emmerson, former Principal of the school who oversaw the opening of The City Academy, Hackney.
The Emmerson Sixth Form Centre features classrooms, a study area, and canteen facilities exclusively for Sixth Form students to use. The Centre is now open for students to use.
